Why the Birth Certificate Fetish? 4 Years ago Karma: 0
I've been asked why we have to supply so many copies of our children's birth certificates. Each sport requires we supply a birth certificate for regular season and then those that participate in post season have to supply them again.

The simple question most ask is why can't we supply the birth certificate one time and it be good for all sports whether regular or post season?

Short answer is I don't know all the reasons but I know some.

Little League requires multiple sources of identification for a post season roster. They must all be supplied (medical form, birth certificate, 3 proofs of residency, 2D form, etc.) for each player. The city has rules for their basketball, soccer, etc. that are similar.

One funny but convenient note, Cal Ripken Baseball provides each kid with an ID Card when they register and that card is good for the kid's entire career. They can submit a birth certificate when they are 4-yrs old and it will be good until they turn 18! They just have to submit their ID number on the post season roster and that's all! Another reason we should consider moving from Little League to Cal Ripken next season!
