2008 6U City Champions |

The American League Orange Crush won the 2008 6U Huntsville softball championship! The team's head coach was Darin Dunaway, with assistants Russ Davis and Steve Davis.
Players on the team were: Kate Burnette, Abigail Dunaway, Paige McLelland, Emily Dunaway, Seth Davis, Austin Latham, Brandon Okweye, Brittany Okweye, Kelsey Quillin, Kennedy Caselberry, Julia Burns, Mary Bragg, Payton Davis and Sophie McRoy.
The American League Orange Crush beat the Eastern Pink Tigers, managed by Coach Mathis, 12-11 in 3 innings at the 6:00 game at the Sports Plex. Brittany Okweye homered in the 1st inning to start the scoring for the Orange Crush. Emily Dunaway got the game tying RBI with a hit in the bottom of the 3rd when she drove in Paige McLelland. Seth Davis got the game winning RBI when he drove in Kennedy Casselberry with no outs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to end the game.

Parents,
Please let me know if you are interested in having a Fall Softball program at HAL. Several other parks in our city are participating this year. This would be a great way to introduce new players to the game, work on the girls' skills or introduce them to their new age group and rules. Also by participating in the fall program it will build a stronger program and stronger teams for our park.
The fall sesaon would run in August and September and finish prior to Fall Break. The games will be on Friday and possibly Sundays. We will work around the soccer schedule, so your daughters do not have to choose between the different sports.
Please email me as soon as possible if you are interested in the program. Fall Sports sign-ups are the last 2 Saturdays in July and the 1st Saturday in August.

Congratulations to the 2007 "Sweetees" Orange Crush team coached by Darin Dunaway. They won the title of CITY CHAMPIONS for the Sweetees T-ball division in the city tournament at the Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.
Way to go kids, and good job Coach Dunaway!
Other teams that received a trophy in this year's tournament include:
- Steve Siniard's Belles (13-15) team, who received the 2nd place trophy for the city in the Championship game.
- Ken Xiques' Belles (13-15) team, who won the 1st place trophy in the Consolation bracket final on Saturday.
- Ken Robert's Ponytails (11-12) team, who received the 2nd place trophy for the city in the Championship game.
- Mike Faulkner's Lions (9-10) Angels team, who won the 1st place trophy in the Consolation bracket final on Saturday.
Way to go players and coaches!
I hope all had a GREAT season, and I look forward to seeing you all at the park next spring. Note that I am hanging up my hat, and Brandi Shoemaker will be taking over as Softball Coordinator starting in August. I will still be around to give her a hand, and will be serving in a newly created official position of "Internet/Communications Director" (aka Webmaster) on the HAL Board.
